Kogan ereader

Okay so a few weeks ago I pre-ordered the Kogan ereader. It arrived yesterday much to my delight. So I’ve had it for just over 24 hrs and only managed to play with it for about 6 of those. But here’s my initial findings. (oh I feel all scientific. *grin*)

Anyone else hear strip tease music? *grin* As packages go this one was very appealing. Nice box, nicely laid out product in the box.

I really liked the way the case and cords were packed under the device in the box. Now you all might be thinking we don’t want to see this stuff we want a look at the device but I think it’s important to show the effort Kogan has gone to to deliver a product that’s appealing. Remember they’re an online only retailer so they don’t need pretty shelves to stock their goods to catch peoples eye but they haven’t scrimped on packaging when they could have. This for me shows their serious about their product. A plus for this particular consumer. The other thing I really liked was the money back guarantee. Not that I think I’ll be using it.

It looks great in the case and the last picture gives you an idea of size. It weighs nothing! Well not nothing but compared to my netbook this baby is a feather-weight.

So down to the nitty-gritty of the Kogan in action. It’s an extremely simple device to use once you know your way around it. For those like me who are tech challenged you’ll still be reading on it in no time. There was a small glitch with the human operator that saw all the free books that come on it erased but I was planning to remove those anyway. *grin* No, really I was. Anyway, once I worked out how to plug it into my PC and push the right button on the device it was as simple as drag and drop. I’ve always read in PDF format but I get my author copies in all the formats each of my publishers sell so I’ve loaded PDF, PRC and ePUB to the device and all work great. I had some issues with the PDF at first but again being tech challenged proved to be the problem, I in fact stumbled across a better way to read the PDF’s and I’m now thrilled with that as well. I was thinking I would need to convert all my PDF’s to ePUB or PRC but now that isn’t going to be an issue. You can zoom in, bookmark, jump ahead to a particular page number and rotate. It also takes music and you’re able to listen while reading with the earphones that come with the device. I haven’t done that yet and I’m not sure I will other than to test it out. It also takes photos but again, not sure that interests me. One of the reasons I got the Kogan was I want to do my final read of my wip’s on it and it takes RTF. I used to have to convert my ms to PDF to do this before but with the Kogan I just drag and drop the RTF I want and away I go. The test run was conducted with Sami Lee’s latest wip and let me say I loved it! The story and the way it read on the Kogan. It’s exactly what I wanted it to be for that particular requirement on my ereader-must-have list. As well as the bookmark function you’re also able to have a list of favorites. It has an auto turn off function that you can set to 10, 20, 30mins or disable and a file explorer for simpler searching as well. I’m sure there are many things I haven’t gotten into just yet but so far I’m very, very pleased with the Kogan. You can check out the Kogan ereader and all it’s info HERE!

When I compared the Kogan to other similar ereaders available here in Australia it had two things that sold me, the number of formats it takes and the ability to add 32G of external storage with a SD card. As I said, I’m more than happy with my choice. And because I can’t help it here’s another pic.

Yes, Twix is happy about my purchase too. *grin*
