That building there is currently my home. Well not the whole building, just part of the 27th floor. 🙂 We’ve lived here over two years now and while it took a while to adjust (I have vertigo) to how high we are I love it now. If you follow me on Instagram or FaceBook or Twitter you would have seen plenty of pix of the view. It’s spectacular and one of the main reasons we picked this place. Oh, and you all know it’s in Singapore, right? Of course I’m not from here, although we have lived here before, in fact we lived in the condo complex right next door to this one so when we were told (by Mr.C’s work) that we were heading back to Singapore we knew exactly where we wanted to live. And to be honest, it was kinda like coming home. We’re familiar with the area. And even though it had been six years since we’d lived here not much had changed.
Of course you all know I’m from Oz right? Home for us has always been Sydney. Both Mr.C and I were born and bred in that city and all our family is there, hell some of the kids still live in our house. A house we’ve had for 25 years. We raised our kids there until we dragged them (some kicking and screaming) to Singapore in 2007. We stayed 3 years then went right back to where we were before we left, a little older, somewhat wiser, and definitely happy to be close to our extended family once more. This time the move meant leaving all the kids behind. That was an interesting thing. We hadn’t live on our own for 27 years. And for me, working from home, having an empty house was super strange. And depressing. It took a while and now we have #TheKid here for a year so that’s changed things again, but I think we’re (okay me) in a better head-space with the changes in our lives. Toss in a couple of Gbabies and bam. Life changes all round it seems.
Wow. I got a little off track there….. 😆 So what I wanted to talk about was where do you live, where have you live, where was the best place you lived and what do you consider home? For us, it’s both places. Our apartment here in Singapore and our house in Sydney.

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, living untill I was 13.Then we moved to a bigger house in the northwest corner of Indiana (actually almost a Chicago suburb). College and my first years of teaching took me to various places around Indiana. I’ve lived in St. Paul, Minnesota for the last 36 years, since we got married. Right now all four of my kids either live nearby or with us. I’ve never lived in a high-rise like yours our really far from my family.
I spent two weeks in Chicago and loved it. Sounds like you’ve been here there and everywhere! Eileen. And I love that your kids are all close by. Mine are close if you count an 8 hour plane ride. 😉 The high-rise is cool, different from a house but the building is set up in a way we don’t see our neighbors often if at all. Being away from family is hard, especially with the Gbabies but we’re making it work and looking forward to the time when we can retire and be in their faces ALL THE TIME!! 🙂
Currently living in a suburb of Portland, Oregon…love Oregon! Born in central Indiana then at age 3 moved to outside of Elkhart, Indiana…lake effect snow and humidity. It’s a good place to be from.. College in West Lafayette then back to my parents house for a year and then got married and moved to Oregon…”been on our honeymoon ever sense…” 😀 Been here going on 25 years. No kids, parents are still in Indiana so we have to go back for visits.
Oregon is on my travel list! I’m not sure why. The whole region just intrigues me. I’ve never lived anywhere that it snows. In fact when we were in Kansas City for RT back in 2013 it snowed and while I’d seen snow before I hadn’t seen it actually falling from the sky. I may or may not have embarrassed myself at the book signing by pressing up against the window to see. 😉
I’m a born and bred Texas girl and can not even imagine living anywhere else. Currently, we live about an hour from where I grew up. My brother and sister still live there so I can see them whenever I want (or not see them as is the case sometimes). We live in deep East Texas, almost to the Louisiana line, amid the pine trees and and dirt roads. Our house is located on a dirt/gravel road sitting in the middle of 10 acres which is good for us because we don’t like close neighbors. We watch the squirrels, rabbits, deer and an occasional big cat of some kind play around our pond and in our yard. With us both retired, life is good and if we want to see kids/grandkids we can and if we don’t then we don’t have to. (You know sometimes I just don’t wanna hear their drama.)
No way could I live in a high-rise like yours. I’d lose my mind. I gotta be able to walk outside, sit on my back patio and enjoy nature. I’m a country girl thru and thru. As they say, different strokes for different folks. My lifestyle would probably drive you crazy. :):)
OMG! Shirley you are living Mr.C’s dream!!! He’d love to be on a nice sized property away from the city. It’s a dream that we might make happen in the future. We’ll see. I love that you’re close but not too close and no neighbors peeping over the fence sounds wonderful. Although we don’t have that here even though we’re in a high-rise. And I’ll be honest, your lifestyle would NOT drive me crazy. In fact I think I’m a little jealous. 🙁 It sounds like you have the best of both worlds there. Peace when you need it and a short drive to company when you want it.
