It takes a village! Or people other than just me!
What am I talking about? Getting one of my stories into your readerly hands!
It takes me days or weeks or months (depending on the length of a story and whether Mr. Muse is being cooperative) to finish a book. Then it takes a few hours or days to spit-polish that thing before I send it to my editor.
MY EDITOR IS GOD!!!
No, really, she is a God among us humans because only an all-forgiving divine entity would overlook the dumb shit I put in my stories and leave lovely comments like this…
I can see that MY issue with her is definitely going to be that she is so ultra independent; I get with the backstory why, but boy, hope she’s able to let down some of her walls soon…
Also, only a divine entity would keep going when they want to do this…
Otherwise, really, I’m swiftly getting to the point where I want to smack her!
I’ll be honest. Editing is my least favorite part of the writing process. Early on in my publishing career I experienced the edits from hell. They were so hellish that a multi-published author wanted to cry over them. That happens sometimes.
Which is why when you find a good editor you grab them in a choke hold, oops, hug and hold on tight (yeah, that’s what I meant) and nurture that relationship, because a good editor, one who you work well with, who knows what you’re doing, who pushes you to do it better, is worth their weight in gold!
Also, she’d tell me where I need commas and where I don’t.
Also also, she’d tell me if spit-polish and all-forgiving should be hyphenated or not.
Also also also, she’d tell me to get back to editing Flyboy!
Look at him! It’s not really a hardship to go back to Flyboy.
Flyboy hits ereaders Feb 25th! Have you pre-ordered your copy yet?
